Dear Constituent,
It is an honor and privilege for me to represent you in the New York State Assembly. I have continuously traveled throughout the 114th District meeting with various organizations and residents in all of the towns of Clinton and Franklin Counties and the Town of St. Armand in Essex County. In addition, I regularly receive phone calls, emails and letters on a wide variety of issues and concerns. Contact with the people who live and work in the district has allowed me to better meet my responsibility to you as your Assemblywoman, and it is what I find the most satisfying. I count as my major accomplishment the opportunity to assist many constituents from virtually every town and corner of the 114th District on matters of importance to them. The current district is about 3,000 square miles and consists of 1 City (Plattsburgh), 34 towns, 10 villages and 16 school districts. As all districts will change prior to this year's election, it appears the current district will become geographically larger by expanding into St. Lawrence County.
I serve on five Assembly standing committees: I am the ranking Republican member of Government Operations; In addition, I serve on Corrections, Ethics Reform and Guidance, Higher Education, and Real Property Tax Committees. The variety of issues addressed by these committees has been interesting and educational. Two years ago I was appointed as the only Republican member of the Autism Subcommittee because of my interest and involvement with the autism spectrum community.
We passed the 2012/13 state budget on March 30th, the first time since 1983 that the budget was passed early. For the second consecutive year, there are no new taxes, fees or gimmicks in the final $132.6 Billion budget. Spending is held at a 2% increase which mirrors the spending cap imposed on local governments and school districts. You will find more details in the Issues section of this site.
I have worked collaboratively with many of my Assembly colleagues both Republicans and Democrats. Although we may have different political views, we share a common concern for the well-being of our constituents, the realization that we must find ways to relieve the burden on our local businesses, and a desire to make the right decisions at the right time.
I look forward to the opportunity to continue to serve you. I appreciate hearing from constituents on matters of concern. If you have any issues you want to discuss with me, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
