Dear Constituent,
It is an honor and privilege for me to represent you in the New
York State Assembly. I greatly appreciate the overwhelming
bipartisan support I received in the November elections and look
forward to continuing to serve the new 115th Assembly District.
Due
to redistricting last year, the Assembly District number has changed to
115th, and I now represent all of the Clinton and Franklin Counties and
4 towns in St. Lawrence County. The district is more than 3,000
square miles with one city (Plattsburgh), 37 towns, and 16 school
districts.
When we return to Albany for the 2013
session, I will continue to be the Ranking Minority member on the
Government Operations Committee. In addition, I continue to serve
on the Corrections, Ethics and Guidance and Higher Education
Committees. Minority Leader Kolb has also appointed me to the
Rules and Ways and Means Committees, and he asked me to serve as the
Secretary of the Republican Conference. I’ve also moved my office in
the Legislative Office Building to Room 635 so if you are in Albany at
any time when we are in session, please stop in to visit. The
first priority as we begin session is the passage of an on-time,
balanced budget on or before March 31st. This year as in prior
years many issues need to be debated and some major legislation must be
passed. As we negotiate and discuss the budget and proposed
bills, I’m pleased to be a part of state government that has taken some
bold steps to reign in spending and promote economic development to
attract businesses, create jobs and grow the economy.
I
have worked collaboratively with many of my Assembly colleagues both
Republicans and Democrats. Although we may have different
political views, we share a common concern for the well-being of our
constituents, the realization that we must find ways to relieve the
burden on our local businesses, and a desire to make the right
decisions at the right time.
A critical and the most
visible part of the Assembly position takes place in Albany passing the
budget and voting on legislation. The most rewarding part of the
position takes place in the District while assisting individuals,
businesses, non-profit organizations, local governments and school
districts. Working together to improve the quality of life in the
North Country is most satisfying.
I look forward to the
opportunity to continue to serve you. I appreciate hearing from
constituents on matters of concern. If you have any issues you want to
discuss with me, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
